Civils and Groundworkers

Byrne civil solutions are actively recruiting civils and groundworkers with experience in drainage kerbing flagging concrete works etc for immediate starts for existing and up-coming secured sites in the Manchester and Northwest areas with dumper and roller tickets, drivers license preferred but not essential. Good rates of pay dependent on experience.

360 Excavator Drivers

Byrne civil solutions are also looking for 360 excavator drivers with CPCS or NPORS drivers license preferred but not essential. Good rates of pay dependent on experience.

Commercial Manager / Senior QS

 Byrne Civil Solutions Limited have a new opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team at our Manchester office. As our Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all costs relating to our projects. Your focus is to minimise the costs of a project and enhance margin and value for money, whilst still achieve the required standards and quality. This will also include procurement, subcontract management inclusive of administration of the contract, monthly valuations, final account settlements and cashflow forecasts.

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic commercial team covering projects throughout the Northwest.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent communication and analytical skills. Highly collaborative and enthusiastic, providing commercial support to the team, which has sustainable long-term work that has potential for future growth.

•  Maintain high personal safety and environmental standards in accordance with Company policy
•  Maintain effective communication with the team you are working with
•  Manage, supervise and mentor your direct reports
•  Provide commercial contact with supply chain partners through pre-contract meetings, contract vetting and input to subcontract documents
•  Commercial management of subcontractors including processing payments, obtaining final account agreements, and resolving disputed issues by negotiation, if appropriate
•  Ensure the timely production of reliable cost performance data
•  Assist in the production of monthly / quarterly reports
•  Be responsible for change management including ensuring adherence to Contractual timescales and Notices
•  Ensure adherence to Risk and Opportunity management protocol and advise the Management Team accordingly
•  Be responsible for the timely production of appropriate levels of applications for payments in accordance with the provisions of the conditions of contract
•  Attend and provide input to all site commercial meetings. Providing commercial advice to the site team
•  Manage time and workloads for yourself and your commercial team in a structured manner
•  Assist and report on and control all commercial and financial aspects of projects and contracts.
•  The individual will need to support the MD on low value high volume schemes, as well as the larger ‘small works’ projects co-ordinating procurement and cost recovery with the operations teams.
•  Regular site visits and liaison with operations teams to ensure all changes and progress are captured and claimed each month.
•  Providing commercial expertise for projects to maximise returns by working within robust procedures to support the Project QS.
•  Produce and process formal documents, certifying the interim/final payments and final subcontract account.
•  Monitor income and expenditure on contracts e.g., interim/final applications for payment / final accounts / payments for late monies etc. liaising where necessary with the relevant people.

Required Skills & Experience:

•  Minimum 5 years post qualified experience.
•  Proven background as a Senior QS with Sub – Contractor project experience.
•  Degree in Quantity Surveying or similar.
•  Civil Engineering and Groundworks project experience.
•  Exceptional relationship building skills, self-motivated and proactive commercial awareness and understanding of the construction process.
•  Computer literate with the ability to use Microsoft packages i.e Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
•  Willingness and ability to learn new technologies.
